Are you a fan of fresh air, urban exploration, and staying active? Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is looking for an energetic, social, and organized individual to spearhead our Wednesday Walkers program! As the face of this group, you’ll help community members stay fit while discovering the hidden gems of downtown Fort Wayne.
Position Overview
- Role Title: Wednesday Walkers Leader
- Schedule: Every Wednesday, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Season: April through October
- Location: Meets at the Community Center / Various Downtown Locations
- Reports To: Volunteer Supervisor (Community Center)
Key Responsibilities
As the Leader, you aren't just walking—you’re the navigator and the social glue of the group. Your duties include:
- Route Planning: Select engaging and safe walking paths throughout the downtown area.
- Group Leadership: Lead the group each Wednesday, ensuring a comfortable pace for participants and maintaining a positive environment.
- Communication: Coordinate weekly meeting spots with both Community Center staff and program participants.
- Tour Coordination: Periodically schedule special tours of downtown landmarks or businesses.
- Reporting: Keep the Volunteer Supervisor informed of the walking schedule, planned tours, and any participant feedback.
Qualifications & Skills
We are looking for a "people person" who embodies the spirit of Parks and Recreation!
- Active Lifestyle: Must be comfortable walking for 60 minutes and enjoy being outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Leadership Qualities: Ability to guide a group, make decisions on the fly, and keep participants motivated.
- Interpersonal Skills: You should genuinely enjoy interacting with a diverse group of people and representing Fort Wayne Parks and Rec with pride.
- Organizational Skills: Capable of planning routes and tours in advance and communicating those details clearly.
